Winter

Our winters are reliable.
Our village and the beautiful mountains are transformed
into a one-of-a-kind winter fairy tale as early as at the end of November.

In the midst of the Hohe Tauern national park, Ankogel is one of Carinthia's most snow-sure mountains
- fun in the snow is guaranteed.

The cable car takes you from the valley station in the Mallnitz alpine resort at 1287 m above sea level
to the mountain station at exactly 2636 metes in 2 sections.

During the past years, the capacity was doubled to a total of 6,700 persons/hour,
two additional t-bar lifts in the upper area of the ski resort provide access to the wide
slopes for carvers and snowboarders.

In the midst of powder snow! The ultimate trend sport of recent years is freeriding,
also known as alpine skiing away from groomed slopes.

The high-altitude ski area Ankogel in the Mallnitz winter resort
is virtually perfect for this type of sport.

Ankogel is the local mountain of Mallnitz and at the same time one of the mountains of Austria's southern most province with the most reliable snow conditions. Its extensive slopes and chutes provide ideal conditions for freeskiers and freeriders.

Cross-country tracks with quality certificate
The cross-country tracks around Mallnitz are among the best Carinthia has to offer.
As the first village in Carinthia, the alpine spa was awarded the "cross-country trail quality
certificate" for the top quality of its trails.

Relevant factors for the award are: the idyllic location of the cross-country trails in the surrounding valleys, superior maintenance and range of variation.

Get out of the city and up into the healthy mountain air.
Catch up on rest and power on virtually empty hiking trails, high above the cloud cover.
Irrespective of the age, anyone can benefit from some rest in today's hectic times.

Trudge through the national park on a pair of snow shoes
and experience the entire beauty of the wintry landscape.

Come close to wildlife at their feeding grounds in the natural surroundings.
The Hohe Tauern national park equally unfolds its full splendour and naturalness in the winter time
- for an unrivalled spectacle.

Tauern Valley tobogganing fun.
A four kilometre illuminated natural tobogganing run takes you from Jamnigalm
in the Mallnitz Tauerntal Valley at an altitude of approximately 1700 metres above sea level into the valley.

A toboggan taxi is available to facilitate the ascent.
It will pick you up directly at the hotel.

Conquer the slopes in a zodiac.

The ice stock sport is mainly prevalent in alpine regions
and resembles curling.

The ice stock sport is an ancient folk sport and assigned to ancient customs from a historical point of view.
It is popular in regions where the bodies of water freeze over and is played exclusively in the winter time.

Come joint our fun weekly guest tournament on our in-house
ice stock rink, accompanied by plenty of mulled wine.

As soon as the first snow covers the mountain sides in late autumn, a calm that is unusual for our hectic world settles in across Hohe Tauern, lasting far into the spring time.

Climbers ascending to the peaks with their own muscle strength far away from groomed slopes and instead of using mountain railways, will discover the shiny magic world of nature - White Spirit, the hidden ski touring paradise in the Eastern Alps!

The national park winter programme offers fascinating opportunities to discover nature!

Experience nature in the company of national park rangers! These experts do not need to fear the comparison with their famous American counterparts.
Whether you are tracing wildlife or join an enchanted full moon hike
- discover the wintry national park region for yourself!
